“How to Tame the Tiger When You’re Indian”

°•°•°

All it takes to tame a tiger, is a tone of terrible truth,

Through teeth & claw my words bite hard, a consequence of manner,

That future is the creation at hand, which my fingers do mold in sentence,

Songs of dreams & beautiful things, sung on the lips of the broken,

A mountain pool, a mirror to the deep, was gifted to my eyes,

Between two worlds, on a rainbow redwood, a bridge into the sky,

As I slept upon this road, starry in the night,

A sharply made shell drifted through, that dark dreamy twilight,

This shell blade is in my hands, a time for an abalone adze,

Through the mirror darkly, an ancestor’s gentle grasp,

Walk this land as new head people, makers of the future,

Dance your prayers onto this land, each step a healing suture,

We are here all around you now, smiling into your soul,

The old ones woke, the watchers wake,

Soon we come home to the boiling stone.
